Description Bill Skellenger 2008-12-20 02:19:18 UTC
Emerge of libquicktime fails because alsa-lib dependency isn't specific enough.

From the ebuild:

RDEPEND="dv? ( media-libs/libdv )
	gtk? ( >=x11-libs/gtk+-2.4.0 )
	aac? (
		media-libs/faad2
		encode? ( media-libs/faac )
	)
	alsa? ( media-libs/alsa-lib )
	png? ( media-libs/libpng )
	jpeg? ( media-libs/jpeg )
	vorbis? ( media-libs/libvorbis media-libs/libogg )
	lame? ( media-sound/lame )
	ffmpeg? ( >=media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070616 )
	x264? ( media-libs/x264 )
	X? ( x11-libs/libXaw
		x11-libs/libXv
		x11-libs/libXext
		x11-libs/libX11
		opengl? ( media-libs/mesa )
	)
	virtual/libintl
	!virtual/quicktime"

And I have installed:

brampton wskellenger # equery list alsa-lib
[ Searching for package 'alsa-lib' in all categories among: ]
 * installed packages
[I--] [M ] media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.8 (0)

Back in 2006, alsa-lib 1.0.9 was considered 'quite old' in bug #142213. Because #142213 mentions the specific symbol I am having trouble with, I assume upgrading alsa-lib will fix my problem. I am doing so now.

Here is the build error, followed by emerge --info:

Upgrading alsa-lib did the trick...

>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
>>> media-libs/libquicktime-1.0.3 merged.

I'm not sure from which version you upgraded from but..

+  20 Dec 2008; <ssuominen@gentoo.org> libquicktime-1.0.3.ebuild,
+  libquicktime-1.1.0.ebuild, libquicktime-1.1.1.ebuild:
+ Upgrade alsa-lib dep. to latest stable 1.0.16 wrt #251696.

I believe this fixes your problem, correct?

   o The libquicktime build failed (I did not have libquicktime until now).
   o I had media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.8.
   o I upgraded alsa-lib to media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.16 (I just did 'emerge alsa-lib' to get the latest stable)
   o libquicktime build was a success

Yes, this should fix it for everyone. Thank you!
