Description:   Opened: 2003-07-22 15:29 0000
par2cmdline is a program for creating and using PAR2 files to detect
damage in data files and repair them if necessary. It can be used with
any kind of file. This is good news for those posting to and downloading
binaries from Usenet.

ChangeLog for par2cmdline

------- Comment #3 From Robin Johnson 2003-07-22 15:56:34 0000 -------
Please go and update the app-arch/par ebuild instead of submitting a new one.
Then attach that updated version here.

------- Comment #4 From Peter Ruskin 2003-07-22 16:28:33 0000 -------
I'm not sure about that. app-arch/par provides par and this one provides par2.
par2 can handle PAR 1 files as well as PAR 2, so it could replace app-arch/par.

On the other hand, people may prefer par to par2, and both could coexist with
slots.
I would prefer separate ebuilds but will listen to guidance.

------- Comment #5 From Robin Johnson 2003-07-22 18:21:34 0000 -------
They are both the same application, it's just a major version update. If the
new package provides only a binary 'par2' then it should have a symlink 'par'
that causes it to act like the old version.

par-2.0.3.ebuild

OK, as requested by robbat2@gentoo.org, here is the ebuild for
app-arch/par/par-2.0.3

------- Comment #7 From Robin Johnson 2003-09-24 18:31:18 0000 -------
ebuild in CVS now.

------- Comment #8 From Nathan Adams 2003-10-28 06:41:30 0000 -------
I disagree with Robin's assessment. The parchive team presents par and
par2cmdline
as two separate applications (thus the two different names). The par app
is at version 1.1 and par2cmdline is at version 0.3. At the very least, rename
the ebuild to par2cmdline. Calling the par2cmdline ebuild par is confusing
at best.

Also, the updated ebuild doesn't seem to have made it out into the real world.
After doing a emerge sync I get:

# emerge -s par
