when emerge outputs a message about installed packages which are masked:

!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- media-libs/amd64codecs-20071007 (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Steve Dibb <beandog@gentoo.org> (5 Nov 2008)
# Mask realplayer, real codecs for security, upstream issues, bug 245662

the "!!! ..." header goes to stderr, while the lines following it go on the
stdout.
this is inconsistent with itself, and also with other "!!! ..." messages, which
fully go on stderr

Thanks, it's fixed in svn r11948 to redirect these warnings to stderr.

This is fixed in 2.2_rc15.
