Description Jack Kelly 2008-11-04 05:14:19 UTC
I've observed this to occur compiling with binutils 2.19 on the host and trying to build targeted versions of both binutils 2.18-r4 and binutils 2.19. I suspect the problem to be mingw-specific, as crossdev -t i686-pc-linux-gnu builds binutils correctly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge crossdev '=sys-devel/binutils-2.19'
2. crossdev -t i686-pc-mingw32
3. failure.

4. emerge '<sys-devel/binutils-2.19'
5. crossdev -i i686-pc-mingw32
6. success.
Actual Results:
"x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-ar: can't set BFD default target to `x86_64-pc-linux-gnu': Invalid bfd target" is emitted in the logs and the build fails.

Expected Results:
Compiled binutils correctly and started building the rest of the MinGW toolchain.

I observed the same problem with powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu and mips-unknown-linux-gnu targets.

Interestingly, a native compile of binutils-2.19 works on my ppc32 machines, but cross-compiling it doesn't work.

Same problem here, building for cross-arm-elf/binutils-2.19

Everyone else: are your logs substantially similar to mine? It might be useful to get them attached if not.
