Please try blender-2.48-r1 and see if that solves your problem, because it has a patch for ffmpeg (and libswscale comes from ffmpeg)

try to emerge blender without ffmpeg useflag USE="-ffmpeg" emerge blender This "works" for me but i'm interrested in a better solution. I already had this bug for the previous version of blender, I can't remember how i solved it...
media-gfx/blender-2.48-r1 isn't masked by EAPI=2 anymore, I downgraded it to EAPI=0, so you should be able to emerge it without any additional troubles. if this should still be a problem, please reopen this bug, thanks.
