I can confirm that this exists, I had to remove the laptop use flag from hal to get it to successfully compile
I too confirm this problem when using hal USE=laptop. powermgmt-base and pm-utils collide over on-ac-power. Reading other bugs, it appears powermgmt-base is superseded. A couple of people comment that unmerging powermgmt-base cures the problem. I confirm that this allows hal USE=laptop. The Gentoo power management guide still refers to powermgmt-base, solely for this script. I suggest someone changes its references to pm-utils. I just killed 0.99.4 from the tree and later version had the blocker already. Closing fixed.
