:-( now, they should not. Since they do some bitfield operations I either expect a little/big-endian problem or a wrong assumption that char is signed/unsigned per default on all archs. I expect the same failure on ppc.
fail on ppc too... if you need access to a ppc box, speak up as I can arrange.
