David, thanks for the ebuild submission. If no devs wants to adopt this package right now, think about submitting it to sunrise http://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/sunrise graphics devs: feel free to send this over to maintainer-wanted if none of you want to take this one on
I should mention that the some of the files installed by this ebuild currently collide with files installed by x11-misc/electricsheep. The electricsheep package builds a version of flam3 bundled in its archive, and I think that it installs some of these flam3 files for use at runtime.
reassigning to maintainer-needed, as graphics is lacking of manpower (as requested by Tommy[D] on irc). btw: there are whitespace issues on the dodoc lines and the example flam3 files are in ${S}.

Flam3-2.7.17 is out and the ebuild version should be bumped, because upstream there is no tarball for 2.7.16 (or older) anymore.
