I have a dell laptop with i945 and synpatics touchpad and just installed xorg-1.5.0. In order to get X working again, I did the following: remerge xf86-video-i810, and in xorg.conf's driver section for video, I changed "i810" to "intel" Additionally, I unmerged "x11-drivers/synaptics" and instead emerged xf86-input-synaptics. No xorg.conf changes were necessary. Voila, I have a working X. Not sure what y'all wanna do with it. But in case others flock to bugzilla looking for it, this info might be useful. Blame the termites.
Will try this, just upgraded to xorg-1.5 and found out that the touchpad was not working. Just as a sider, why is xf86-input-synaptics masked and what is the deal with two synaptics drivers?
It's listed in the package.mask ChangeLog, but seems to be absent from the package.mask file itself. Unless, of course, I'm doing things wrongly. As for why there are two: my guess would be that the second one is the official xorg driver for synaptics (whether the code from the old one got folded in or not, I can not say, having not delved too deeply), and the first will be deprecated in due course. But for a while, they probably both need to exist (for the differing xorg-server versions in portage).
I bet the maintainers can enlighten us :)
It should have been unmasked with the new X.Org, which is why it was moved in with that mask. Shame that it has been ignored. I will unmask it now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
It was unmasked already as expected. My changes to X.Org were ported forward, but currently both synaptics packages can fulfill the depend. That is not correct, so I will update this.
Updated dependency, that should do it.
This one got me...and I got it! Blessed be! Pappy
