A totally different problem with wrong install_names eventually lead me to the conclusion that imagemagick-6.4.2.9's configure searches for -ljbig automagically by default. It has a configure argument --with-jbig, so I guess it's easy enough to fix in the ebuild (+ USE-flag?).
./configure --with-jbig configure: WARNING: Unrecognized options: --with-jbig ... something must be broken in this version, will have to investigate. (that's why I removed the USE-flag in this version)
Created attachment 163365 [details, diff] --with-jbig patch Indeed, they messed something up. How about this patch? Can't eautoreconf as some OPENMP macro is missing (at least on my system).
thanks for the patch, reported upstream at http://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11907 added back jbig USE-flag in media-gfx/imagemagick-6.4.2.9 with your patch.
answer from upstream: > We have a patch for the JBIG configure issue in the Subversion trunk. > It will be also be available in the next point release.
Thanks, the only problem I see is that you added an eautoreconf, which will break for people not having gcc-4.3 IIRC. (at least for me) For that reason I also patched configure itself, so the eautoreconf isn't necessary.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's caused by the reconf. Zeev, can you uncomment the eautoreconf call in src_unpack, repoman manifest and try to compile?
yeah, commenting eautoreconf fixed it. Thanks!
Now I have access to a box where I can commit this, I removed the eautoreconf. Hopefully all fixed now, thanks!
