by including 'ffmpeg/avformat.h' instead, the ebuild emerged fine.

PS: USE="-ffmpeg" didn't work but I saw this being discussed on another bug.

I don't mind that USE=ffmpeg pulls the currently unstable 2008-version as
dependency, but I do mind that stepmania won't build anymore with stable ffmpeg
(2007). I'm suggesting, that line
  epatch "${FILESDIR}/${P}-newffmpeg.diff"
would be changed to 
  has_version >=media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20080326 && epatch
"${FILESDIR}/${P}-newffmpeg.diff"
or something at some point of time, which at least makes stepmania to build
with old stable.
