Bugzilla Bug 230712

I wanted to update to www-client/kazehakase-0.5.4-r1 but portage tried to
downgrade www-client/mozilla-firefox to 2.0.14.

I've got an 1.8.x version of xulrunner but it still tries to downgrade firefox.

Workaround: emerge --nodeps and don't use emerge -u world as long as the bug
isn't fixed.

Well, I think this is actually a portage bug.
To verify, simply switch the order of dependencies in the ebuild,
so xulrunner comes before mozilla-firefox.

Possible, but rather unlikely, because we'd face a lot more issues wrt. ||
dependencies.


Christian: Please paste the exact output of emerge -pv world.


@mozilla team: This is yet another ebuild, with a differing approach to other
ebuilds coming with firefox and xulrunner use flags. We definitely need some
unification here, to provide a consistent user experience.

Not a mozilla maintained package

I claim it's a portage bug, cause it a following problem:
xulrunner and mozilla-firefox are || dependencies,
xulrunner and mozilla-firefox are both installed,
but...
firefox is >=3.0 and ebuild requires <3.0,
xulrunner is installed in correct version, but as firefox
has been already positively validated as installed, it's ignored

The way you "fixed" it is broken.
>=firefox-3 is an incorrect dependency,
cause unless it's build with -xulrunner (as it's discouraged),
it doesn't provide anything that kazehakase depends on,
as xulrunner-1.9 provides everything.

Read all the bugs of firefox 3 vs xulrunner that were closed as invalid
(those about vlc and some gnome components specifically).
