First of all, thanks for cleaning up the libcap ebuild and including it in the standard Portage tree. I've now added support for linking libcap and its binaries statically. You'll need the two attached patches (libcap-1.10.static.patch, libcap-1.10.python.static.patch; put both in the files/ dir) and the modified ebuild (patch attached, too). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Created an attachment (id=12990) [details] libcap-1.10.static.patch: Patch for linking libcap statically
Created an attachment (id=12991) [details] libcap-1.10.python.static.patch: updated Python patch for use with the static patch
Created an attachment (id=12992) [details] libcap-1.10.ebuild.static.patch: patch for libcap-1.10.ebuild to support USE=static
so i'm not even sure what libcap does :( robbat2 might know more about this patch.
Alastair: Thanks, I'll take care of it. Sascha: Give me a little while with this. I'm cleaning up the python patch stuff a whole lot so it could be used outside gentoo easier.
I've update your python patch to work with SWIG >= 1.3.14. They've introduced an incompatible change. :(
