Please try installing dev-python/elementtree and see if that helps. I don't get why the fallback to bundled file doesn't work, but better to use the system one anyway.

Thanks for the info. I will try to investigate later, if I manage to switch to python 2.4. Python 2.5 works for sure, but upstream says 2.4 should too.
OK so the problem was that setup.py didn't import thirdparty module and thus the import thirdparty.ElemenTtree later failed. This is now fixed in CVS.
I'm trying to figure out why it's still crashing on my system. Has this patch not yet been imported into the Gentoo system?

Should be now fixed by upstream in the 0.70.1 just added to CVS. Sorry for the delay.
