Hello, the test suit of cabal is broken, bitrotted. When the HUnit package is available it will fail compiling anyway as the cabal API has changed. This is a known issue, see http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/212. Unfortunately it's quite a lot of work, nothing we can fix easily. I've disabled the test suit in cabal-1.1.6.2 and in cabal-1.2.3.0. It will be enabled again when the test suits works. Thanks for your report!
