Some small fixes, x86 stable

====amd64====

1. Installs fine.(note that it installs an empty directory,
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/)
2. Works. I note that the screen no longer fills up with duplicates when there
are no more messages. Last release did this, so it is a very nice fix.

please stabilize.
