Description:   Opened: 2008-04-10 23:49 0000
Hi,
I observer this on ~x86 for a long while but now as it is even in
livecd-i686-installer-2008.0_beta1.iso I think I have to report it.

# emerge coreutils
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild UD] sys-apps/coreutils-6.9-r1 [6.10-r1] USE="nls*"
[blocks B ] sys-apps/mktemp (is blocking sys-apps/coreutils-6.10-r1)
[blocks B     ] >=sys-apps/coreutils-6.10 (is blocking sys-apps/mktemp-1.5)
#

The solution for me is to unmerge sys-apps/mktemp and run first 'emerge -uN
system' and only after that I can proceed with 'emerge -uN system' or 'emerge
-uN world'. Somebody should make sure mktemp is not contained in the stage3
build at least.

Corrected typos, sorry

Sorry, blockers are a natural part of Gentoo's package management and something
that is expected to occur. This is *especially* so if you're running ~arch, as
you're expected to know what you're doing.

------- Comment #3 From virdiq 2008-04-11 03:37:57 0000 -------
mktemp is now included in coreutils-6.10 and the latest stable ebuild is
coreutils-6.9 (which is why mktemp is is included in stage3's, as the stable
coreutils-6.9 doesn't have mktemp). When you upgrade from x86 stage3 to ~x86,
you'll obviously need to remove mktemp in favour of the newer coreutils-6.10.

The question that would probably be better to ask is whether coreutils-6.10
will be marked stable before 2008.0 is released (to prevent this issue cropping
up for new stable users when coreutils-6.10 is marked stable).

------- Comment #4 From Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) 2008-04-12 00:26:22 0000 -------
I'm going to reuse this bug to do as virdiq suggested.

------- Comment #5 From Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) 2008-04-12 00:27:00 0000 -------
So what do you think about getting this stable for 2008.0?

If so, add the arches. ;]

i dont think there are any regressions from 6.9

Probably because of:

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=sys-devel/automake-1.10.1" have been
masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- sys-devel/automake-9999 (masked by: missing keyword)
- sys-devel/automake-1.10.1 (masked by: ~hppa keyword)

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
(dependency required by "sys-apps/coreutils-6.10-r1" [ebuild])

Except for bug #210133 which was only fixed in coreutils-6.10-r2. Which means
id and user/pass lookups for users with more then 1 NSS provider are going to
fail.

I can confirm on my system as well. I did a quick look, and stable packages are
depending on stable versions of mktemp and coreutils, which seem to be blocking
eachother:

jacob@jacob-gdesktop ~ $ sudo emerge -uDNav world
Password:

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating world dependencies... done!
<snip>
[blocks B ] sys-apps/mktemp (is blocking sys-apps/coreutils-6.10-r1)
[blocks B     ] >=sys-apps/coreutils-6.10 (is blocking sys-apps/mktemp-1.5)

Total: 16 packages (15 upgrades, 1 new, 2 blocks), Size of downloads: 21,176 kB

!!! Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be installed
!!! at the same time on the same system.

For more information about Blocked Packages, please refer to the following
section of the Gentoo Linux x86 Handbook (architecture is irrelevant):

OK, I fixed my above issues by running "emerge -C mktemp && emerge -1
coreutils" (thanks to users at #gentoo!) which means my reports previously are
a sign of Gentoo n00bishness and should be ignored if they haven't been
already. :)
