On powerpc the hardware cursor gets screwed up. It looks as a bigendian bug. The cursor is 'mirrored horizontally' and shifted to the left. Easy fix is selecting swcursor. Reproducible: Always

But to fix this bug, xorg-server needs to be patched, too (see http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/xserver.git;a=commit;h=da973e962d09854b571320dee7dd9569060bc39e ). At least, I can tell that x11-base/xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r5 needs this patch, as I've just tested it myself. Maybe xorg-server-1.4 was fixed by upstream, I don't know (the patch was commited on 2008-03-20).
Created attachment 150159 [details, diff] Fix cursor bug in xorg-server on big-endian platforms. This is the patch that fixes this bug. It should be applied to x11-base/xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r5, and maybe other versions as well.
I've put this patch into a local branch for xorg-server 1.4 and requested that upstream pull it into their repository.
I have this problem too. Will this patch be added to the portage tree? [ebuild R ] x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.8.0-r1 USE="dri -debug" 0 kB
This patch has been in xorg-server for quite a while and is shipped with the latest stable version on PPC (1.5.3-r5). Closing fixed Thanks
