Hey. I'm just posting a suggestion that was batted around on IRC.

It would probably be a good idea if after emerging sendmail, it said something 
like "Sendmail has been emerged with the following mail format:" and then say 
which was selected. If neither mbox or maildir use flag is selected, it could 
say something like "WARNING: No mail format use flag was selected, defaulting 
to maildir. See http://www.gentoo.org/dyn/use-index.xml for more information".
