http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/release/2008.0/index.xml is the closest thing we have to an official release schedule. The beta release date has long since passed, without any update or news item about this.
When the schedule was announced, it was also said that it was tentative and subject to change. Since we were already behind, considering a second beta, and a member of releng is currently on hiatus due to some family issues, it's not possible to even guess at an updated schedule.
You could write down that it has already changed. Where will you announce when the beta is ready? Will the tree snapshot and everything necessary t build the corresponding images be released at that time?
Any news on this? I would like to know if a first Beta will be pushed out until 7-Apr as I have to setup a new box. If not, I'll go with 2007.0.
It will be done when it's done. We'll announce things as we know them.
... using a 'Beta' to setup a new production box probably isn't advisable nor supported anyway; there is no way the final release will be published before 7th April as there was a 2-week period between Beta -> Final for bug squishing. So your best bet is to use Gentoo 2007.0 media and `emerge -uDNv world` after finishing your basic install to get the latest packages loaded on there.
