the stable version of ipython, ipython-0.6.15, is not compatible with python-2.5. When envoking ipython under python-2.5 environment, the following exception is raised: $ ipython /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/IPython/genutils.py:1404: Warning: 'with' will become a reserved keyword in Python 2.6 Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/ipython", line 28, in <module> IPython.Shell.start().mainloop() File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/IPython/Shell.py", line 883, in start return shell() File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/IPython/Shell.py", line 54, in __init__ shell_class=shell_class) File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/IPython/ipmaker.py", line 85, in make_IPython IP = shell_class('__IP',user_ns=user_ns,**kw) File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/IPython/iplib.py", line 539, in __init__ __builtin__.exit += _exit TypeError: unsupported operand type(s) for +=: 'Quitter' and 'str' It is because python 2.5 changed the built-in exit variable. It is now a Quitter instance instead of a string. More recent versions of ipython have fixed this problem. We should add a "!>=dev-lang/python-2.5" line to ipython-0.6.15.ebuild's DEPEND, or just remove ipython-0.6.15.ebuild sine it is outdated.
We'll stabilize a newer one when python-2.5 is stable, meanwhile NOTABUG.
Python 2.5 is going stable, reopening.

(In reply to comment #4) > ppc64 stable I had some trouble finding this bug because you mistyped its number in the ChangeLog. I've corrected it now.
The provided tests (in the tests directory) fail, but the interactive shell seems to work fine. Marked ppc stable.
