All current apache ebuilds (1.3.20-rX, 1.3.22-rX) put the documentroot in /usr/local. This is contractory to the FHS, which states that /usr/local is reserved for the local system administrator. We should set (and install) documentroot to /var/www or /var/apache/www or something instead.
Even better would be to let the admin put the root in /etc/rc.conf.
Going to take a stab at this.
Hmm.. read cvs log (shoulda done it first) and it looks like woodchip is working on it. Assigning back to woodchip.
Hmmm... shouldn't /usr/local/httpd be /opt/apache instead?
well, this is closed :)
