Description Ryan May 2008-01-30 21:01:56 UTC
When I try to build geos-2.2.3 on any of my AMD64 boxen, I get the following error (while it builds PyGEOS):

creating build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.5
x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -pthread -fno-strict-aliasing -march=athlon64 -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -fPIC -I../../source/headers -I../../source/headers/geos -I/usr/include/python2.5 -c geos_wrap.cxx -o build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.5/geos_wrap.o
geos_wrap.cxx: In function ‘PyObject* _wrap_Geometry_srid_set(PyObject*, PyObject*)’:
geos_wrap.cxx:24174: warning: passing ‘double’ for argument 1 to ‘virtual void geos::Geometry::setSRID(int)’
x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -pthread -shared -march=athlon64 -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.5/geos_wrap.o ../../source/geom/.libs/libgeos.a -L/usr/lib64 -lstdc++ -lpython2.5 -o build/lib.linux-x86_64-2.5/_geos.so
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.2/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: ../../source/geom/.libs/libgeos.a(Coordinate.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
../../source/geom/.libs/libgeos.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
error: command 'x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++' failed with exit status 1

It should be noted that this error occurs on a new system as well as systems which already have existing installs of geos-2.2.3. I also get the same error with geos-2.2.1, though for some reason it does not cause the emerge to fail.

Reproducible: Always

emerge --info please.
Comment 2 Ryan May 2008-01-30 22:28:44 UTC
This is from one of my systems that has geos-2.2.3 installed, but now can't reinstall it.

It should now be fixed. Thanks for the report.
