this has been 'bugging' me for a while too. 
gnome-wnck2 compiles fine with libwnck-2.18.3 
but fails with any of the 2.20.* branch.
you have to install the latest gnome2-wnck-0.15,
renaming the old ebuild works but without the patch. 
I'll file another bug report for that.

gnome2-wnck-0.16 is in the tree.

@perl-team: Can anyone of you test this version so it can go stable sooner?
As nothing (beside the package masked x11-misc/perlpanel) depends on
gnome2-wnck, it might be possible to move it an overlay?
