Description:   Opened: 2007-12-30 03:34 0000
Mathematica fonts for 6.0 have been out for a while, could someone whip up an
ebuild for them? As far as I know it's probably not too different from the
install process for 5.2, which is currently in portage.

The font package can be found at
http://support.wolfram.com/mathematica/systems/windows/general/latestfonts.html
, just as the old 5.2 fonts could be.

The new version is needed since Mathematica 6.0 doesn't seem to run unless I
have the fonts installed. Though it's probably a bit irrelevant, see "Actual
Results" for the error message.

This is my first version bump request, sorry if I did something wrong.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual Results:
When running Mathematica 6.0 with media-fonts/mathematica-fonts-5.2, I get the
message:

"A serious error has occurred while Mathematica was starting up. Mathematica
will probably not function properly until this problem is resolved. You may
choose to continue anyway, but Mathematica may crash or exit without warning.

The Mathematica fonts are not properly installed in your system. Without these
fonts, typeset mathematical expressions cannot be displayed properly."

Although it says I may choose to continue anyway, these messages appear in a
dialog box with only a "Quit" button.

Er, whoops - emerging x11-apps/xset got rid of the error Mathematica gave me,
but hey, media-fonts/mathematica-fonts could still do with an update :)

Bumped, thanks.

Actually, upon some further investigation, I've found this:

http://support.wolfram.com/mathematica/systems/linux/general/latestfonts.html

The current ebuild seems to install the windows font package, perhaps because
at the time it was created, linux fonts were not offered. I don't know much
about the situation, but wouldn't it be better to use the linux fonts? I don't
know if this is related, but I do have some display issues using the current
ebuild (fraction divider lines look huge), which may be due to using the
windows fonts.

Anyway, just a suggestion. I hope this warrants reopening the bug. Thanks!

Hey, I've updated the ebuild and made it install the linux fonts, this has
fixed a few issues I've been having with mathematica and its rendering of
formula/results. I didn't realise that the windows fonts were being installed
and thought that this package did nothing as it didn't fix my problems

I'm not sure what to do about the header but I hope the rest is ok

This has been tested on 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 and appears to fix problems both myself
and my boss were having with rendering

i'll apply this next time i have a chance to work on fonts stuff.

wolfram.com appears to have updated their site. I spent only a little while on
this. Please reopen this bug.

Matthew, please open new bug for this new issue. I failed to find any
references too and if such link does not exist we'll have to mask and punt this
fonts from the tree. It really looks like Wolfram changed their mind and now
require users to register to download fonts, but I'm not sure...
