The ardour ebuild lacks a dependency for alsa. I had to emerge alsa-lib-1.0.14a-r1 for ardour compilation to work. The problem is known at ardour forum:

http://ardour.org/node/1154

the compilation will fail with:

libs/midi++2/alsa_sequencer_midiport.cc:175: error: 'SND_SEQ_PORT_TYPE_SOFTWARE' was not declared in this scope



Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install "old" alsa-lib (sorry, don't remember version)
2. emerge =ardour-2.0.5
3.

Actual Results:  
compilation failed

Expected Results:  
compilation succcedes

May I suggest that you upgrade your system properly, using --deep?
