Ebuilds for gpac-0.4.2-r1, gpac-0.4.4 and mkvtoolnix-2.1.0 use 
WX_GTK_VER="2.6"
need-wxwidgets gtk2
This for 2.6 means ansi version, however documentation for both says that
linking with unicode version is possible and should work correctly.
gpac says in doc/INSTALL.gcc:
II.2 wxWidgets Support
...Both unicode and ANSI versions of wxWidgets should be supported.
and mkvtoolnix mentions in ChangeLog a few old (2005) bugs that were fixed, so
it should work too. Both seem to build fine and at least don't segfault on
start.

should be easy.  i'll do up a couple patches for media-video.
