Freshmeat description: XPaint is an image editor which supports most standard paint program options. It includes advanced features like image processing algorithms, simultaneous editing of multiple images, and support for a wide variety of image formats. Notes: Freshmeat & Tucows claim that 2.6.1 is the most recent, but 2.6.2 was released more than a year ago. It uses imake, so I added a patch to make things install in the right places. I made all of the available image formats into dependencies, even though you can build the program without some of them if you hack Local.config.
