Description Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-02 12:16:20 UTC
We have no known kernel regressions from the 2.6.22 kernels. I have tested extensively on amd64 and x86. A little later than planned, please mark stable!

ppc64: you need to take care of bug #197768 first.
ppc: you need to take care of bug #199876

The other architectures should be good to go as-is.
Comment 1 Markus Rothe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-02 13:10:56 UTC
stable on ppc64. I've marked sys-kernel/vanilla-sources-2.6.23.9 stable.
Comment 2 Markus Rothe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-02 13:11:24 UTC
s/I've/I've also
Comment 3 Olivier Crete (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-02 20:30:38 UTC
I've been testing it too and I had no problems... amd64 out
Comment 4 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-02 23:28:41 UTC
Should we stabilise sys-apps/v86d, too?
Comment 5 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-03 00:15:19 UTC
Good idea, x86 please do that too.

For other arches it is not essential, vesafb-tng was never usable on non-x86. But for x86 yes we should mark v86d stable too.
Comment 6 Michal Januszewski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-03 18:38:02 UTC
It would be really nice to get v86d-0.1.3 stabilized instead of one of the previous versions -- it fixes an important bug which will completely break uvesafb for users who have some specific video cards.
Comment 7 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-03 20:03:58 UTC
v86d is marked testing for amd64 and the documentation says it works for x64...so readd amd64 for sys-apps/v86d-0.1.3 Michal, nice work, I have the splash screen working th first time on my laptop.
Comment 8 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-04 07:44:21 UTC
x86 stable for vanilla-/gentoo-sources and sys-apps/v86d-0.1.3
Comment 9 Torsten Rehn 2007-12-04 16:07:54 UTC
v86d-0.1.3 works fine for me on AMD64

Comment 10 Donald R. Gray Jr 2007-12-04 22:20:15 UTC
Issues I encountered upgrading.

alsa-driver needs to be bumped to 1.0.15, 1.0.14 fails to build against gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r3.

svgalib-1.9.25 fails to build against gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r3 without the patch from this bug: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195632

Both of these don't appear to be the kernels fault, but it would help alleviate some future problems if they are resolved before making the kernel stable. And users recompile their modules for the new kernel.
Comment 11 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-04 22:41:28 UTC
please file a bug for the alsa issue if there is not one already
Comment 12 Thomas Tuttle 2007-12-05 15:19:15 UTC
The stable version of ipw3945 doesn't build against gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r3.

It gets an access denied error from sandbox trying to read (and later write) /usr/src/linux/.lst, and then spits out 1902 (helpfully numbered!) pages of gas (assembler) output. Since there were sandbox errors, it doesn't merge.

Would you like this filed as a separate bug and set as a dependency, or will you handle it within this bug?

ipw3945-1.2.0 on gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r3 build log

This is the output I got from emerge when I tried to merge ipw3945-1.2.0 on gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r3. I had to bzip2 it because it's 5 MB otherwise. ;-)
Comment 14 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-05 15:27:58 UTC
There is already a bug for that issue, bug #195137, please search.

It is not a kernel bug and hence does not obstruct the kernel going stable (provided that I give ample warnings to the maintainers, which I did).

If the bug is not fixed, you should comment on the existing closed bug or open a new one.
Comment 15 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-06 15:46:59 UTC
v86d (angelos), gentoo-sources (tester) and vanilla-sources (drac) stable on amd64
Comment 16 Tobias Scherbaum (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-06 20:44:36 UTC
both vanilla- and gentoo-sources stable on ppc
Comment 17 Ferris McCormick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-07 18:12:45 UTC
Sparc stable.
Comment 18 Raúl Porcel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-02-13 17:25:43 UTC
ia64 stable

As for alpha, we have a problem with our dev box not being able to boot with >2.6.23 and could be due to aboot, we are working on this and tomorrow we should have an answer :)
Comment 19 Raúl Porcel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-02-13 17:26:12 UTC
Err, i meant >=2.6.23
Comment 20 Raúl Porcel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-02-14 11:28:38 UTC
Okay, it was aboot, blame Tobias :P

2.6.23-r8 marked stable, release, please add it to the snapshot
