I don't know japanese to tell for sure, but it seems that a new version of this font has been released and that there were some changes in license. As a sidenote: is there any page that explains why kochi-substitute has been made default japanese font for many packages and that compares japanese fonts currently in portage ? The ebuild in the tree is broken due to missing file. When trying to emerge media-fonts/ja-ipafonts-0.0.20040715 it tries to fetch the file grass5.0.3_i686-pc-linux-i18n-ipafull-gnu_bin.tar.gz which does not exist on any Gentoo mirror and not on the original site anymore either. This it cannot be installed anymore. I put Sugimura-sans ja-ipafonts-0.0.20080201.ebuild in an overlay and it installs fine (extremely slow download site though, can it really cope with the traffic?), so my suggestion is to replace the ebuild in the tree with it for testing. The more CJK fonts available through portage the better.

Hi, I'm Hideki Yamane, Debian Maintainer (not official Debian Developer but maintain some packages) and translator of this UNOFFICIAL (but upstream knows ;-), license information. It's not reviewed enough (IANAL and ...I'm not good at English, you know :-) So I recommend you to not use this yet. I'm trying to complete it and put it into Debian non-free repository, then you would use it. This is NOT compulsion, just a suggestion.
