Installing just vmware-server-console-1.0.4.56528 on a machine that has no other vmware packages gives several errors during emerge, e.g. --- /usr/share/mime/packages/ >>> /usr/share/mime/packages/vmware-server-console.xml --- /usr/share/applications/ >>> /usr/share/applications/vmware-server-console-vmware-server-console.desktop --- /usr/share/pixmaps/ >>> /usr/share/pixmaps/vmware-server-console.png chown: `root:vmware': invalid group The message displayed on the screen says: * Remember, in order to run VMware Server Console, you have to * be in the 'vmware' group. However no vmware group is created during install. This has the effect that when vmware server console refuses to run, and the the program files have the wrong group set (root:root instead of root:vmware). Could the ebuild be modified to add a vmware group by default if it doesn't exist. Reproducible: Always
Thanks, this has been fixed in the overlay and should be pushed out to the main tree after a period of testing... 5:)
