well, it crashes immediately if i try to update psmisc

I didn't have gettext installed at all. So

# emerge gettext

fixes my trouble. Should psmisc depend on gettext or should autoconf depend on it?

Patch works like a charm and saves the day for uclibc users.

This looks better:
 use nls || epatch "${FILESDIR}/${P}-disable_nls.patch"
