HPPA has =sys-devel/binutils-2.17.50.0.12 stable, which is supposedly greater
than 2.17. Re-CC if something still needs doing, please.

those are false positives which are not new ... you'll get the same failures on
2.17

Further testing shows that this works fine on amd64 despite the errors
mentioned.
