It exists in the Desktop Configuration guide. Perhaps the link from the install doc is not as obvious as it should be. Really, this is not an install time issue, but a post-reboot configuration issue, which is why it is addressed in the second document.
I think it should be an install issue. It's a secure by default thingy. You and I know better, than to operate as root, but someone out there might not know. Debian, Redhat, Mandrake all have guided installs that let the user know, "hey running as root is stoopid". Everyone who runs an install sees this warning. I think anyone installing gentoo should encounter this (in the install doc) as well. On the other hand, the install document is only getting bigger, and I am looking at ways to pare it down. There shouldn't be any non-essential stuff in here.
Sherman, Yes, you have a point on that. Then again, it comes down to who our target audience is. Or, perhaps the Desktop Config Guide might be split up a little bit, and that user/wheel issue be addressed earlier in that doc? Maybe we should have a Gentoo manual of sorts, along the idea of Slackware?
I have this vague idea of a superdoc. Kind of an "OK I installed gentoo now what" doc. The Gentoo Polishing Guide. This guide would simply (with good description) link to smaller guides or FAQ items ...
