I'd like to ask for the stabilization of dev-ruby/ruby-gettext-1.10.0. It has ben in the tree for a month with no reported problems. This version has significant performance improvements compared to previous versions, in addition to the usual bug fixes and enhancements.
On sparc, I get this: >>> Install ruby-gettext-1.10.0 into /var/tmp/portage/dev-ruby/ruby-gettext-1.10.0/image/ category dev-ruby ERROR: Error installing gem /var/tmp/portage/dev-ruby/ruby-gettext-1.10.0/distdir/gettext-1.10.0[.gem]: Invalid argument - /var/tmp/portage/dev-ruby/ruby-gettext-1.10.0/distdir/gettext-1.10.0.gem This used to be a problem with sys-devel/autoconf-2.61-r1 + ruby (any) on sparc. If I downgrade to autoconf-2.60 and rebuild ruby, everything is fine (this is an improvement; used to be -2.59). But for some reason, if I build any version of ruby with any autoconf beyond -2.60, I can no longer build rubygems nor anything which uses it. Problem is sparc-specific, and reproducible on all my sparc systems. If other sparc people can confirm or refute, please do so; this is either a problem specific to all my systems or a sparc related autoconf/ruby interaction problem (again).
Sounds like a manifestation of bug 161566.
stable on ppc
Sparc stable --- as Hans suggested in Comment 2, my problem was a manifestation of bug 161566 caused by an old glibc version on the system I chose for testing. After upgrading to glibc-2.5-r4 (no, I don't know why this system had been stuck at a 2.3.6 version --- an artifact of something else long forgotten), rebuilding autoconf-2.61-r1, and finally rebuilding ruby-1.8.6_p36-r3, ruby=gettext-1.10.0 builds and installs fine. Most tests run as expected; the ones which want to connect to mysql directly using /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock all fail, of course, because the mysql socket is /var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock.
Bah. There's no dependency, really. Sorry for the noise.
dev-ruby/ruby-gettext-1.10.0 USE="doc" 1. Emerges on AMD64. 2. No collisions. 3. No test phase. 4. Multilib-strict ok. 5. Works - tested with some sample scripts, and with the rdeps.
