Description Peter Ansell 2007-07-09 23:19:38 UTC
Viewing a webpage in Firefox (and other applications I suspect) which wants the Tahoma bold variant now looks really bad as it tries to put the font down twice as an ugly shadow. This is not Firefox's fault I suspect, but could be fixed by taking Tahoma out if the the real bold variant cannot be included in the corefonts package.

I only noticed it after the upgrade to r3.

BTW, if anyone knows of a way to make Firefox substitute another font for Tahoma as a workaround it would be great.

See the following Ubuntu bug/comment for a related solution

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/msttcorefonts/+bug/50529/comments/14

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.View post subject headings on this page http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=431063
Actual Results:
Tahoma is chosen as the variant with bold enabled and it looks bad

Expected Results:
A real tahoma bold, or failing that a replacement with a real bold font

er, that comment says nothing about a solution :P

Unfortunately there is no free version of Tahoma Bold available. I've removed Tahoma from coreutils-1-r4.

Thanks for pointing this out.

+ 29 Mar 2015; Ben de Groot <yngwin@gentoo.org> +corefonts-1-r7.ebuild,
+ -corefonts-1-r5.ebuild, corefonts-1-r6.ebuild, metadata.xml:
+ Add Tahoma optionally. Include shipped EULA (bug #416735).

In -r7 this is now optional, but not enabled by default.
