I'm just committing a fixed ebuild to the tree, which should work-around your issue. This is basically due to the backend requiring mysql-5, which as you said on IRC don't have installed. The "solution" is, install a newer version of mysql or don't activate the USE for it.
Are you sure mysql-5 is needed? I can compile it with mysql-4. I'll attach a log of my build.
