Currently the kde herd team doesn't have enough members to be able to deal with testing errors. Please emerge the package with FEATURES="-test"

In case you're not aware, both arts and kdeenablefinal are strongly discouraged by the kde team. Before reporting any (compiler) error with a kde package, try to emerge it without the kdeenablefinal flag.

Ok, I will.

All right, I'll recompile KDE without them then.
But are you aware that arts is in default-linux/x86/2007.0/desktop and lots of other profiles and probably lots of people are using it?
Also, won't disabling it have negative effects on KDE's capability to play sound (eg. in notifications)?
Comment 3 Wulf Krueger (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-28 19:35:15 UTC
Well, actually, we'll always have enough time to add RESTRICT="test" to an ebuild. Currently, the tests work for me, though, so I'm going to have a closer look at it.

As for kdeenablefinal - it's problematic and shouldn't be used globally (make.conf) at least. arts is still being supported but most of us don't use it and as it's mostly abandoned by upstream, too, bugs related to it might take some time to get fixed.

You can use ALSA instead of arts and your KDE will be able to play sounds just fine - even better than with arts in some situations. :-)

Good, I just wanted to make sure :-) I'm recompiling with -arts now.

Thanks for the replies!
Comment 5 Wulf Krueger (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-29 05:16:35 UTC
The test failure results from using the kdehiddenvisibility USE flag for kspy. I'll see what to do about it.
Comment 6 Wulf Krueger (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-29 19:37:54 UTC
I've disabled the tests for now.
