after upgrading to cfg-update-1.8.2 meld does not get called as before.

The alias for emerge, used for updating the index, is now deprecated...
cfg-update now uses hooks instead of the alias for emerge...
For Portage a new hook has been created in /etc/portage/bashrc
You should remove the alias for emerge in /etc/profile
followed by running this command: "unalias emerge"

The recommended merge tool for cfg-update is xxdiff, a nice GUI tool.

Please install dev-util/xxdiff or change the MERGE_TOOL variable to

i don't use xxdiff, and i have 
MERGETOOL = /usr/bin/meld
in my /etc/cfg-update.conf

The variable name was changed, you need to set MERGE_TOOL now, not MERGETOOL.

that's cool, but i was not able to get to the point where i see the new config
file and notice the change.

Ah, yes, that would be annoying. I'm sorry about that. I'll try to update the
ebuild later so that any MERGETOOL setting will be changed during the build.

Harold, don't bother changing the ebuild...
I'll change the script so it still recognises the old variable names in the
configfile.
