diffutils-2.8.7-r1 installs several manpages, cmp, diff3, etc, but not the diff manpage. man-pages-2.46, unlike 2.44, does not install the old 1998 era GNU diff manpage, so when one runs "man diff", one gets the waaayyy too general and all but worthless section 1p IEEE/Open Group programmer's guide diff manpage. Either diffutils should install the manpage, or man-pages should continue to install the GNU version, it would appear the former if the same approach is taken here as with coreutils (see bug #105188 and #158985), which would presumably get us a newer than 1998 version as well. Still, for general usage anyway, 1998 GNU version's definitely better than the IEEE version! Package versions mentioned above and I just resynced and remerged both, just in case there had been a no-bump update, so emerge --info isn't likely to be necessary. Never-the-less, I'll attach it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Created attachment 118598 [details] emerge --info
i'm going to wait for coreutils-6.9 to go stable so we can stabilize the newer man-pages as well
fixed with diffutils-2.8.7-r2
