I noticed that since today, x11-base/xorg-server-1.3.0.0 is blocking x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers. xorg-server's changelog says: 01 May 2007; Donnie Berkholz <dberkholz@gentoo.org>; xorg-server-1.3.0.0.ebuild: Remove VIDEO_CARDS flags for binary drivers and block binary ati and nvidia drivers, since none of them work yet with 1.3. Since we aren't yet sure which versions will, block them unconditionally for now and add appropriate dependencies later. Now I want to report, that for me x11-base/xorg-server-1.3.0.0 has been working without any problems with nvidia-drivers-1.0.9755-r1. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Fixed in CVS.
You can fix it yourself also :). Just re-enter the support for the binary nVidia/ATi-drivers. What you must do for it? Check the diff between version 1.2.0.0 and 1.3.0.0 of the ebuild: http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/x11-base/xorg-server/xorg-server-1.3.0.0.ebuild?r1=1.2&r2=1.3 Works here :)
Thanks for the fast reaction. :) To Cybertinus: I wasn't really looking for a fast fix, actually I wanted to report what was working for me, because the changelog said that they weren't sure about it.
You could also just download the previous version of the ebuild. http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/gentoo-x86/x11-base/xorg-server/xorg-server-1.3.0.0.ebuild?rev=1.2
To Timo Rothweiler: true. Maybe you arn't looking for a quick fix, but somebody else who reads this bus is looking for such a fix :), then he can find it here.
1.0.9631-r1 works just perfectly fine, and is the only drivers version usable w/ older cards. Remove this pointless blocker, thanks.
nvidia-drivers-1.0.9755-r1 works fine with xorg-server-1.3.0.0 on my x86 system. No issues as far as I can tell. Just thought I'd chip in and try and get this block removed, compatibility seems fine.

I've removed blockers from >=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9631-r1 since there seems to be no problems. Problem in bug 175503 seems to be only with ati-drivers. So what about nvidia-legacy-drivers and 8xxx series of nvidia-drivers?
x11-drivers/nvidia-legacy-drivers-1.0.7184 work fine with xorg-server-1.3 but don't have any game on my machine to test dri ;) on : System uname: 2.6.21-gentoo i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1900+ Gentoo Base System release 1.12.10 Timestamp of tree: Wed, 02 May 2007 05:00:01 +0000

Can we remove all the nvidia blockers? Bug 175503 clearly only affects ati-drivers.
#broken on GF4200 Ti =x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9629 =x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9631 =x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9746 I have had to specifically mask the above that do not work with my card. It seems like the dev policy here is to block everything and see who screams. So I'm screaming ;) please can the version block be rolled back to at least 9296 , the last nvidia-drivers that I was able to make work on my system? thx

These GPUs will continue to be maintained through the special legacy NVIDIA GPU driver releases. The 1.0-96xx driver supports the following set of GPUs: GeForce4 Ti 4200 0x0253

I'm running 1.3.0.0 with nvidia-drivers-1.0.8776-r1 with no issues. (I've had bad luck with the 9xxx drivers with interlaced modes and pulling in more modes than I want from the EDID)
