I got vmware-workstation 5.5.3 running fine from Portage. As soon as I started it up, it said there was a newer version. So I downloaded and installed it (5.5.4). However, the "vmware-config.pl" step croaked, saying it couldn't build the modules, and pointing me to their web site. So ... does there need to be a 5.5.4 ebuild? Or is the plan just to wait until 6 is out of beta and do an ebuild for that?
If you're interested in an ebuild for the beta 6 version, you should use the vmware overlay in layman. Did you install 5.5.4 from vmware's tarball?
Since 5.5.4 isn't in portage, I'm assuming this is in fact a version bump request rather than a vmware technical support questions (since that'd be best placed in the VMTN forums). I've changed the summary accordingly. Chris, I'm away on business for the next four days, but since this is just a security/maintenance release I'd assume that the existing modules will work after a bump. If you test it and find out they don't, gimme a shout and I'll work up a vmware-modules solution... 5:)

OK. I added this to the tree.
Thanks!! I just purchased a Linux VMware Workstation 5.5 license. I'm about to collect my free upgrade to 6.0 and see what it does compared to Xen. It will be nice to be able to drop back to 5.5 if I get into trouble.
