Can we stable app-editors/nvi-1.81.5-r5 so we get a version that works with
eselect-vi ?

Sounds good to me. Arches, would you please stabilise

I'm sorry for having edited the ebuild after many arches marked it stable, but
a very serious bug with USE=unicode was just reported, so I had to made
1.81.5-r5 always build without wide character support (or keep the stable
version practically unusable with the flag turned on). -r6 is fixed, but
shouldn't be considered for stabilisation yet. To the arches remaining: please
don't let this stop you from marking -r5 stable. The problem does not affect
the single-byte character version, which is built exactly the same way as
before.
