Description fdupoux 2007-02-25 14:27:58 UTC
The new sys-apps/baselayout-1.12.9 is broken when using this package from a livecd built with gentoo-catalyst. The previous release (sys-apps/baselayout-1.12.6) was working well on the livecd. The problem comes from /etc/init.d/halt.sh that unmounts /dev/loop0 that is required for the system. Just after the unmount, all commands cannot be found (even awk, grep, ...) and the system stops as seen on the screenshot before.

If I use baselayout-1.12.9, and I only replace with the old /etc/init.d/halt.sh, it works well. Of course, if I keep baselayout-1.12.6 it works well.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
If you want to reproduce the bug, do this:
Test a bogous livecd with baselayout-1.12.9, you can download this one:
http://cdbeta.dupoux.org/systemrescuecd-x86-0.3.3-beta4.iso
Just boot the ISO, type "halt", and you will see the problem.

I use dev-utils/catalyst-2.0.3_pre2 to build the livecd.

I'm removing release, since it is blocking our tracker bug, and I'm reducing the severity, since this really isn't something we would block the release over, being mostly cosmetic.

So, got a patch?
Comment 3 Andrew Gaffney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-03-16 16:35:59 UTC
This is fixed in livecd-tools SVN. A new version will likely be out shortly.

If I use baselayout-1.12.9 and change livecd-function (in overlay-squashfs/sbin/) with file you mention, I got an error message when shutting down, during about three seconds. see : http://gparted.free.fr/screenshots/crash/baselayout.jpg
Then it does poweroff.

OK... fixed in 1.0.35-r1 of livecd-tools

Doesn't work here with baselayout-1.12.9 and livecd-tools-1.0.35-r1
Got exactly the same error as mentioned in the first post :

It is working for us using those exact versions on the LiveCD for 2007.0's release.

It isn't released yet. You'll have to wait.
