kdebase-2.2.2-r1 is looking for libGL.la which does not exist on my system, the ebuild lists virtual/opengl, opengl is in my USE variable. Still it does not build media-libs/mesa, which provices the libGL.la I'm not sure if the virtual/opengl needs fixing or mesa has to be added so the ebuild, so i'm not proposing a solution :) -ceed
OK, I'm finally back from my offline week and am starting to handle things. I can't reproduce this right now, because I do have mesa installed and don't want to uninstall it. BTW, here libGL is provided by the nvidia driver. In any case this is an opengl problem not a kde one, I think there was a change in the virtual opengl resolution a while ago that caused this. I'll look into it - tomorrow :-(
*** Bug 229 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
kdebase-2.2.2-r1 emerged when I emerged mesa-3.5.ebuild from the snapshot of the portage tree taken on jan-19th. - aniruddha shankar bangalore, india
OK, this is caused by the general nvidia driver/mesa libGL.la generation bug #245 http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=245 - so there's little I can do.If this shows up for anyone who isn't using the nvidia drivers, please say so, as that wuold mean I may be misreading the situation.
i'm having this same problem, but i'm not using the nvidia drivers. i have recently coaxed xfree-4.2.0 to merge, and have merged mesa-glu-3.5. i don't want to merge mesa, because i'm trying to keep the hardware acceleration that the libGL from xfree provides. hope you guys get this straightened out. keep up the good work
um, I think it's still caused by that bug? That's how I understand it, anyway. Please ignore my nvidia comment above, I now realize #245 can acuse problems for everyone, not just nvidia folk. Anyway, for now the gl screensavers in kdebase are staying off, so that everyone can build it. We can't afford having so important a package broken for some people.
I believe this bug is fixed with the newer xfree ebuilds. I just compiled it with gl support, and it works just fine. I don't have the permissions, but somebody who does could probably change this to resolved now. -Kalen
Ok, can the orig reporter (ceed) and whoever else expirienced the problem uncomment the GL support in the kdebase ebuild and test with the new xfree? If a successful compile is reported, I'll reenable the GL support by default and close the bug.
Since noone added any comments, I assume this has been fixed.
