Description:   Opened: 2007-01-25 10:22 0000
Since the version bump, kooldock loads only erratically. It is always present
as a process but the UI does not show up. Dinstinction:

1. Loading on KDE startup (default): maybe once out of 20 times, the UI will
show. The rest of the time, never.

2. Manually starting it: first, kill it. Then start again from a shell. Result:
maybe once out of 5 times, the UI will show.

I cannot find a pattern here - the number of tries I need to get it working
seem to vary. I also don't know if and to which location kooldock writes a log.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge and wait if it loads with KDE next time, ps auxwww and grep for it
2. from a user shell, kill the process
3. load it again (no parameters)

Actual Results:
see above

Expected Results:
Show the dock UI

Configuration is a KDE 3.5.5, built from startkde package. No panel or dock
replacements other than kooldock. Seems not to be related to other software
running (cannot find pattern).

Running on free Radeon driver (M9, Radeon Mobility 9000), DRI enabled.

I'm using kooldock only occasionally, but it always shows up properly...

Please paste your emerge --info output.

ps. have you tried to clean kooldock configuration and begin new session?

------- Comment #2 From Ralph Holz 2007-01-25 22:05:27 0000 -------
As for the configuration: I tried deleting the kooldockrc to feign a first
start. This produced something: at first, the dock would not show up, but when
I switched the desktop, it suddenly did. When I switch back, it then works on
the original desktop as well. I can reproduce this.

I also get this on the console when I start it manually:

ralph@localhost ~/.kde3.5/share/config $ X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window
parameter) 3
  Major opcode: 20
  Minor opcode: 0
  Resource id: 0x1c00ab2

As well as this, when I change a setting in the menu:

QImage::smoothScale: Image is a null image

Ok. Here's what emerge --info says:

Hmm... I found that kooldock sometimes loads after 5-10 seconds (quite a long
time), but this is the only thing I see here...

Anyway - I've just commited kooldock's version bump into CVS. Plz try version
0.4.4 and tell us, is your problem still there.

Cheers,
Przemek

------- Comment #4 From Ralph Holz 2007-02-12 10:03:50 0000 -------
I have emerged 0.4.4 and after the first 2 tries the problem seems to be gone.
I hope it stays that way. ;) Whatever you did, good work!

As for 0.4.3, in the end my workaround was to switch to another desktop after
loading KDE and and switch right back again - then the UI would show (otherwise
it would not).

------- Comment #5 From Przemyslaw Maciag (RETIRED) 2007-02-14 23:29:22 0000 -------
Good to hear :)

I deleted kooldock-0.4.3 from portage tree.

Cheers,
Przemek
