I encountered the same problem. Try with FEATURES="-userpriv", since it appears
that some tests require root privs. That solved the problem for me.

Maybe adding a notice to the ebuild would be good?

Okay, turns out it was just returning unitialized values from the stack. 
Fixed, and the tests now pass.
