I just merged sys-libs/gdbm-1.8.0-r4 and got the error: "install-info: warning:
no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/gdbm.info.gz'"

I unmerged all gdbms first.
I then did the following:
emerge --clean rsync
emerge sys-libs/gdbm

And I received the same error.

I imagine that gdbm has been updated, but my patch to fix the info directory 
problem did not get updated with it.

Yea, I did emerge --world update (on r13, and did emerge --clean rsync; emerge 
sys-apps/portage prior) and got this:

 * Regenerating GNU info directory index...
('gdbm', None, None, '.gz')
 * Processed 50 info files: 1 errors; type emerge --verbose to view errors.
 * IMPORTANT: 36 config files in /etc need updating.
 * Type emerge --help config to learn how to update config files.
