Trying to compile rmagick (without the examples USE flag) yielded the following

emerging gnu-gs-fonts-std fixed this for me, could it either be made a
dependency, or could compiling/testing the examples be disabled if the examples
USE flag is not set?

Actually the examples are part of the documentation, their output is used in
the documentation. 

I have now introduced the doc USE flag in rmagick-1.14.1-r1 which makes
building the documentation optional. When building documentation it is now ok
for some of the examples to fail, so things should work without the fonts
installed even the building the documentation.

The doc USE flag is added to rmagick-1.14.1-r1, so please test that version to
see if it solves the issue.
