There is nothing we can do about this I know. Just figured a message could be inserted telling users of ati-drivers that they will need to switch to xorg-x11 opengl in order to use googleearth. I should also note I have sent a basic report upstream for ati-drivers about the breakage ... Soon as I hear from them you will hear from me :-b

I get major display corruption issues in various OpenGL contexts. Running fgl_glxgears causes a banner of display corruption across the top of my screen and OpenGL games are unplayable due to the display corruption. Are you having a similar issue with Google Earth? Could this be an upstream issue?
Check out this thread http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-3810007.html#3810007 This fixed my problem (googleearth hangs on start-up). It seems that GE is looking for a missing lib (libGL.so.1).
Created attachment 105455 [details, diff] ati and nvidia properly supported even with newer ati-drivers Patch says it all. Simple hack to keep googleearth happy with ati-drivers >8.27.x
Created attachment 105456 [details, diff] force nvidia for no reason Like I told genstef there is no need to force nvidia, mesa can be used but he insists on forcing a full package not needed. I have made my point clear and do not agree but here it is.
thanks, fixed
This is not fixed .. amd64? ( app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs || ( >=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs-7.0 x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers x11-drivers/nvidia-legacy-drivers video_cards_fglrx? ( x11-drivers/ati-drivers ) <x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.28.8 ) )
I cannot listen to you if you dont explain yourself. Looks good and correct to me. DOnt reopen this bug without explaining in detail what is wrong, why it is wrong and why you would want to do it different. And think about it ..
